It started that one day in the park. I was sitting under the rather dilapidated pier, looking at the river (which, though polluted is still a pretty view) eating a hot dog and french fries for breakfast, when this thing just appeared next to me. It was grayish-red, slimy, with what looked like octopus tentacles. It didn't have eyes, though it moved its body as if it were looking all around. It had a stretch of some kind of cloth around it, shimmering, like water in sunlight, and it was stretched tightly around the thing, which was taller than me by a few feet.

ReflectionsIt is 5:55pm. She'll be home soon. I'm waiting here in the living room for her, as I always do. I'm old now, and it's hard to move much, but I know she likes seeing me after her hard day at work. I know her better than anyone else, and I know that while she does not gossip like they do, she gets frustrated just as easily. At 6:00pm, the door opens. At her wide smile at seeing me waiting, I know that it was worth the ache in my bones going down the steps. She hasn't smiled like that in a while.
